What's a rid?
Darwin provides this property as an ID to identify a particular service. But I puzzled for a long time what it could stand for. It's a Darwin specific ID, but it seemed a bit of a stretch to think it could stand for Darwin ID.
Well, I found the answer in (surprise surprise) Darwin's documentation. Fancy that!
A few times in this document, it explains that a rid is "A unique RTTI ID for this service that can be used to obtain full details of the service."
So rid = RTTI ID.
But what's an RTTI?
Thankfully there is a glossary on the last page of the document that reveals RTTI means "Real Time Train Information. Now known as Darwin."
So now we know that rid (sort of) stands for Real Time Train Information Identifier.
