TRTS
Train Ready To Start
Some train describers send TRTS notification data as part of there S-Class messages.
TRTS buttons (or plungers) are often found where a train is said to 'start' its journey from. That may be a termini station, a bay playform, or a siding, depot or yard.
They are used to inform the signaller (or in the case of ARS enabled systems - the software) that a train is approaching its departure time. This prompts the signaller to set the route etc. ready for a right time departure. Within ARS it triggers a chain of events which ultimately lead to the same outcome.
In the case of normal passenger operations, the TRTS button is pressed by the platform staff, guard, or driver a few minutes before the booked departure time. The button or a lamp then light to confirm its operation. Once all the required conditions have been met that allow the starter signal to come off the TRTS indication clears and you may often see an 'OFF' indicator on platforms light up. This informs the platform staff that the signal has come off and the train can depart once platform duties are complete.
Platform staff then have another button to indicate the driver or guard should close the doors ready for departure which displays 'CD' along the platform. Once the doors are closed and proved they then press a final button which displays 'RA' along the platform indicating all duties have been complete and you are 'right away' and can proceed.
- CD & RA buttons are local indications only.
- You can not TRTS an empty platform
- At some locations TRTS is done automatically without the need to press the plunger.
